Full accommodation information

Tucked away near the ancient ruins of Pukara de Quitor, Alto Atacama Desert Lodge & Spa occupies an area of serene beauty in the beautiful Catarpe Valley of the Salt Mountain Range.

Built to blend into its surroundings, the building is made of materials like adobe brick and locally-sourced terracotta-hued wood, the hotel is built like a traditional adobe settlement, and its architecture, gardens and interior design recreate the style of an ancient Altiplano village.

The lodge enjoys a strong connection to local culture and traditions; from the ‘Andescape’ landscapes and commitment to sustainable tourism to the use of traditional recipes and the resident alpacas and llamas!

Each of the 42 spacious guest rooms boasts a private terrace. For stargazing the lodge has a private open observatory deck. The spa has massage rooms for couples or individuals, a sauna, steam room, indoor and outdoor jacuzzi, mineral baths and six outdoor pools. For the ultimate in pampering, try the Puri Spa trilogy, a 90-minute treatment that focusses on your feet, back, and head which ends in a relaxing outdoor mineral bath. Dining at Alto Atacama is a real treat with simple local produce matched perfectly with a smooth Chilean wine.

Guests of the Alto Atacama are well-equipped to enjoy everything the Atacama Desert offers, with knowledgeable bilingual guides on hand to illuminate the desert’s secrets and wonders, and over 30 excursions to take part in. Explore the dramatic landscapes in the region on a carefully planned walk, hike or biking route. Watch the sunrise at El Tatio geysers framed by the iconic Andes mountains, or stargaze across some of the clearest skies in the world.
